It's late September, highs are forecasted to be in the 80's all week long in Central Oregon, the few deciduous trees in the area are just about to turn and what is the Sunriver Resort Grounds Department doing? Hanging holiday lights of course.

While we're waiting for the aspens to turn in Central Oregon and Sunriver, we've had a different type of fall colors - appearing both in the morning sky...

Sunriver is surrounded by millions of acres of coniferous forests, so it's probably not the first place people think of when considering fall foliage. But if you know where to look the Fall colors in Central Oregon can be almost as spectacular as any dense deciduous area.

The staff out at the Sunriver Resort Stables take great pride in their herd of approximately 100 horses which consists of 16 breeds of trail horses, guide horses, draft horses and ponies, each with distinct personalities and experience. Some of these horses have worked in Yellowstone and Glacier National park before heading out west to graze in the Sunriver meadow and provide trail, wagon and carriage rides to Sunriver Resort guests.

Sunriver Resort is surrounded by millions of acres of national forest land, hundreds of rivers and streams and miles of high desert country to the east. So wildlife sightings are extremely common here. But some creatures are a little more elusive than others, such as the Great Horned Owl. We received a good tip from one of our Facebook followers, James Barnett today on how to spot a tree with an owl in it. "Look at the ground. If you see an abnormal amount of shaved conifer cone, look up. There may be an owl."
Our Director of Agronomy spotted these two baby Great Horned Owls the other day in a tree near Crosswater.
