Every Friday evening in August, the Sunriver Nature Center invites you on an "Owl Prowl". Meet up at 8pm and a naturalist will take you for a guided walk on the Sunriver nature trails searching for signs of nocturnal creatures. Dusk is the best time to view these animals and the warm, summer evenings make it comfortable too (don't forget to bring the bug spray).

Owl Prowls meet at the Sunriver Nature Center at 8pm every Friday in August. $4 per adult and $2 per child (age 2-12). Call 541-593-4394 for more information.

In early spring, the Western Toads lay thousands of eggs in Lake Aspen next to the Sunriver Nature Center. By mid-summer, the tadpoles from those eggs have grown legs and arms, resorbed their tails, and begin to amass on the shores of the lake. Some environmental factors trigger their motivation to move and in some years, Sunriver has seen hundreds of thousands of one-inch-long toads migrating from the lake out into the meadow and forest. The toads are mostly terrestrial, unlike frogs who need to live right near a body of water, and in about three or four years, they'll be ready to lay their own eggs.
