Old Man Winter is back with a vengeance at Mt Bachelor and he has blessed us once again with amazing ski conditions near Sunriver Resort. The snow is deep and light due to the ideal low water content snow that recently blanketed the mountain and Central Oregon a short time ago. My eight-year-old son and I recently had one of the best ski experiences of our lives. As the photos below illustrate, the snow was ideal for “powder hounds” of all ages.

This past weekend 81 intrepid runners braved the cold and snow to participate in the inaugural Sunriver Resort Run For Chocolate 5K. Jason Townsend of Bend was the winner of the male division with a time of 19:54 and Sunshine Willis won the female division with a 25:24 time.
Put the event on your February calendar next year as we look to make the race bigger and better in 2012 (exact date TBD).

Winter weather returned to Sunriver and Central Oregon this week, and just in time for President's Day Weekend. Six inches of snow fell in Sunriver the last couple of days, leaving behind a nice white trail for the horses pulling the sleighs by the river. Meanwhile, nearby the Mt. Bachelor ski area received three feet of powder since Monday!

After a snowy start to the winter season in Central Oregon, we've seen a dry and warm pattern develop for the entire month of January and first part of February. Crater Lake, about a 90 minute drive from Sunriver Resort, recently made MSNBC's list of awe-inspiring vacation destinations. There are so many things to do in and around the immediate area of Sunriver, it may be difficult for some guests to justify three hours in a car for a day trip to Crater Lake. But for those that have visited Oregon's one and only national park, the decision to make the drive is a no brainer. Below are some of the comments from Sunriver Resort's Facebook followers:
