Sunriver Resort - Sunriver Press Releases
LEFT FOR DEAD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, ONE LUCKY DOG INSPIRES OTHERS AS ‘DIRECTOR OF BARKETING’ AT OREGON’S SUNRIVER RESORT
(SUNRIVER, Ore.)--The results are in, the votes have been tallied, and by a landslide margin ‘Tivi’ -- a rescued 7-8 year old Sharpei mix who has found new life after enduring a lifetime of hardship -- has beaten out nearly 300 other contestants and been named the new ‘Director of Barketing’ at central Oregon’s Sunriver Resort . As such, Tivi will be the featured canine in all of the Resort’s pet-friendly marketing materials and will receive a prize package from Bend-based dog gear manufacturer Tazlab. But to tell the story of Tivi going from underdog to wonderdog is much more than that. When Tivi was found on the side of the road, his muzzle had been taped and he had apparently been doused with gasoline, set on fire, and left for dead. His dramatic rescue took him to the Humane Society of the Ochocos, an Oregon-based no kill animal shelter where Tivi spent two years recovering from burns and trauma while waiting to find his forever home. Ultimately, Tivi was adopted in March 2010 by his new father and currently resides in Estacada, Ore., southeast of Portland. “The Director of Barketing contest was initially conceived as a way for us to have fun conveying the fact that Sunriver Resort is a very family-friendly destination, and that pets should absolutely be included in the definition of family,” said Daryl McCarl, interactive marketing manager at Sunriver Resort. “We never dreamed that this contest would take on a life of its own, providing an advocacy platform for rescue and shelter dogs nationwide.” With a substantial Facebook following and fans from across the world, Tivi has become an inspiration to other shelter and rescue dogs, many of which are considered ‘unadoptable’ due to a variety of reasons including post traumatic stress, appearance, mannerism, etc. “Tivi is such a wonderful, loving dog who has endured many hardships in his life and in the aftermath of his situation,” said Randa Speck, one of Tivi’s caretakers at the Humane Society of the Ochocos. “Despite his situation, he has so much love to give and as Director of Barketing at Sunriver Resort hopefully he can be an inspiration to other shelter and rescue dogs, and the individuals who might someday make them part of their family through adoption.” Related links: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tivis-Home/108228549221356 http://adopttivi.webs.com/ http://tivi.tumblr.com/ About Sunriver Resort: Located in Central Oregon, Sunriver Resort features nearly 250 guestrooms and more than 400 vacation rental properties comprised of private homes and condominiums. Lazy float down the Marina
I'll never forget one late, hot summer afternoon I rented a single person kayak from the Sunriver marina and floated down the Deschutes river on my back for 3 hours; eagles and osprey soaring overhead and the fish jumping all around. Probably the most peaceful I've ever felt. Every once in a while I could hear a family's laughter echoing in the canyons and then they would float by me in a raft. They would pass and I would feel like I was the only one on the river again. It was great! Read More

Best Golf Experience on the Woodlands
I was finishing up on the 3rd hole over at the spectacular Woodlands golf course, (flowers were blooming/just got a stiff drink from the extremely cute beverage cart gal) as my foursome and I pull up to the green there were 3 deer hanging by the green. We parked and I thought they would scatter but they were so calm and I guess used to people being around them that they weren't bothered. They hung around and kept grazing while we putted out and finished the hole. Wish I had my camera.. Read More

Fall River my Favorite Place in the World
My favorite memory, and place to go in Sunriver is Fall River. It is a ten minute drive from the Resort, and you feel like you are in the middle of Narnia. Going there really allows me to experience all the beauty of truly trekking it in the Great Pacific North West. From driving to the forest, to turning onto the bump, dirt forest road (I always enter from the forest road), to the short hike along the river where you pass some log cabin ruins.and finally, ending at the fall. It is the perfectly small waterfall where you can fly fish, pick nick, tan, and even tie a raft up and float out in the crystal green lagoon at the base of the fall all day. Not to mention, I get to bring the pups and seeing them that happy makes my day. This is truly ne of my favorite spots in the world. Read More
North Twin Lake
An incredible day trip from Sunriver Resort is North Twin Lake about a 20 mile drive. Great place for picnicking, swimming and fishing. My family loves the peacefulness, the kids stroll down the sandy beach while the guys are out in the boat fishing for trout. No motors are allowed on the lake so no worries about the kids in the water. Wonderful for spending quality family time. You can build fires on the shoreline.. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Worth the drive out. Read More

Civil War Scramble at the Woodlands Golf Course
High School football players from Mountain View High School and Bend High School were out at the Woodlands on Sunday June 6th for their annual Civil War Scramble Fund Raiser. The fundraiser was open to all general public with proceeds going to support both football programs. Proceeds will help the programs with all costs: football equipment along with other various program needs. “If money wasn’t raised, equipment wouldn’t exist. If you want to be a competitive program, you have to go about raising money the right way to pay for program costs” said Craig Walker, Head Coach for Bend High School. The coaches were expecting around 90 players (23 groups) for the 1:00 shotgun. Players from both sides were there in full presence dressed in jerseys and there to help with outside service tasks: setting up golf carts, loading golf bags, and sending people in the right direction. Wayne Purcell, Assistant Coach for Mountain View said, “Even though the programs compete, this is a joint effort by both programs, and proceeds are shared.” It was pretty easy to tell the two schools were rivalries as I walked past the schools split into two separate huddles in the parking lot. However, there was no debating the fact that they were on the same team at least for a few hours as they shared a common goal for the afternoon! Mystery of the Bush Raising
Many words have been written about Sunriver’s historic Great Hall, now used as a meeting and wedding venue. It is the magnificent legacy of Camp Abbot constructed in 1943 by the Army Corps of Engineers. We know the camp’s Commander, Col. Frank Besson chose his most elite engineers to construct an officers club in the style of a mountain lodge. We know the engineers and craftsman used over 500 hand-hewn logs and tons of native rock to complete the project. History tells us construction began in October 1943 and was completed in December 1943. The Army spent a mere $4,796 to obtain materials not available locally. It was a training exercise for soldiers and engineers bound for the European front. Yes much is known about the stately Great Hall, but one piece of history remains a mystery… What was the Bush Raising Ceremony? Read More

Food Presentation – Complementing our Pacific Northwest Tradition
Plated dinners at banquets have traditionally been served using the three-point presentation; dividing the plate into three separate sections with meat as the focal point. The Toads in Sunriver Need Your Help
In early spring, the Western Toads lay thousands of eggs in Lake Aspen next to the Sunriver Nature Center. By mid-summer, the tadpoles from those eggs have grown legs and arms, resorbed their tails, and begin to amass on the shores of the lake. Some environmental factors trigger their motivation to move and in some years, Sunriver has seen hundreds of thousands of one-inch-long toads migrating from the lake out into the meadow and forest. The toads are mostly terrestrial, unlike frogs who need to live right near a body of water, and in about three or four years, they'll be ready to lay their own eggs. Read More
Reducing Plastic in Landfills
Did you know? Only two manmade structures on Earth are large enough to be seen from outer space: the Great Wall of China and the Fresh Kills Landfill in New York. In 1979, there were an estimated 18,500 landfills in the nation. In 1990 there were only about 6,300, and by 1995 it was estimated that only about 3,000 would still be open. In just 16 years the number of landfills dropped by 84%. During that same time there was an 80% increase in the amount of trash generated. Seventy percent of U.S. municipal solid waste gets buried in landfills. U.S. landfills are closing at the rate of 1 per day.[www.cleanair.org] Read More

We had an amazing Sunriver wedding this past weekend. Kimberly Taylor and Brandon Downey said their "I do's" outside on the Mt. Bachelor lawn on Sunday.
