Two half marathons, which one should I sign up for?
You might be wondering why we have two half marathons as part of the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause weekend. Last year we introduced Challenge Races and the Saturday Half Marathon was born. Challenge races give runners and walkers the opportunity to take on the challenge of running a Half Marathon on Saturday and a Half or Full Marathon on Sunday. Last year we had over 70 participants in challenge races.

The Saturday Half Marathon course stays in Sunriver, starting at the Lodge and makes one nice full loop on the bike trails. It gives runners and walkers the opportunity to run 13.1 miles of the scenic beauty in Sunriver, passing by the Stables and towards the North End of Sunriver, returning to the finish at the Resort. This race starts at 8:15AM vs the Sunday course which starts earlier at 7:30AM. With the later start you can get a little more sleep but it also means there is the chance of running in slightly warmer weather near the end of your race.

The Sunday Half Marathon course is part of our signature event which started in 2011. The Sunday Half marathon starts at the Lodge and travels over to the private community of Crosswater which is full of uniquely beautiful landscape and you might even get to see the resident ospreys and eagles. The course then crosses over to South Century Drive to the community of Caldera Springs where the course again showcases another unique high desert landscape. Finally the course returns back to Sunriver to finish at the Resort. This course is USATF certified, the Saturday course is not but it really only matters if you are trying to set a record time. The Sunday Half Marathon starts at 7:30AM, 15 minutes after the Full Marathon and shares the finishing festivities with the Full Marathon.
With this being my forth year as the Race Director and Co-Founder of this event, the Sunday course holds a special place in my heart and gives runners and walkers a very unique opportunity to run through Crosswater and Caldera Springs. The Saturday course is also a great race for those that love the beauty of Sunriver. The choice is yours to make, or maybe sign up for the Challenge and do both!
