The Sunrise Alpenglow in Central Oregon
There are plenty of "must-do's" while you're in the high desert of Central Oregon, but one that doesn't always make it on the popular lists is: "catch a sunrise".
The colors are especially vibrant in the winter around here when aproaching storm clouds scatter acrooss the pre-dawn sky. Photo below taken at 6:45am on February 23 looking east.
Look to the west on one of these days and you will often see the "alpenglow" effect on the snowy east facing slopes of Mt. Bachelor 20 miles away. Photo below taken at the exact same time looking west.
This pinkish hue on the mountain appears when the sun is below the horizon, and light reflects off the clouds above the mountain (water, or ice particles).
