Tennis Tip from Sunriver Pro: The Serve
The serve is one of the most difficult shots in all of tennis. At the same time it is one of the most important shots in all of tennis. Most players focus on simply getting the point started, which is obviously not a bad idea, but what if we could make our serve better than everyone we played? The biggest misconception is that you hit down on the ball to make it go in the box. In reality you actually want to make an aggressive move up to the ball, therefore actually hitting the ball up off of your strings.
If you can focus on swinging up to the ball and then letting your hand naturally come over after contact, you will find that your serve should get more pace and more depth!! The pace and depth should force your opponent to hit a weaker reply and therefore give you are larger advantage at the start of the point. The next time you play try to focus on really being aggressive up to the ball on your first serve. If you happen to miss then play the second serve safe and just get it in. Hopefully, you will find yourself starting to win a few more easy points!!
