Sunriver Resort is helping to save lives... one soap at a time
This January, the Housekeeping Department at Sunriver Resort became a hospitality partner of Clean the World. By turning in soaps and amenities that the guests left behind, we are not only recycling, but also saving lives. All soap and amenities, which are usually just discarded, will be donated to the Clean the World program in Orlando, FL. From there the amenities will be collected, sorted and sanitized. The amenities will then make their way to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished countries suffering from high death rates as a result of acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease because they have no soap.
Did you know? 3.5 million Children under the age of 5 will die this year due to two deadly diseases—acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease? Even more tragic than these statistics is that 65% of these deaths could be prevented by up to 65% through simple hand washing with bar soap! Today, in the US, we throw away between 1-1.5 million bars of soap in hotel rooms! All of these numbers are mind blowing, so we as a team decided to start doing our part to Clean the World.
All of the used bottles and soap will be recycled, preventing thousands of pounds of potential waste from making into our landfills.
Sunriver Resort is the 6th property in the Destination Hotels & Resorts collection to join the program, the first in Central Oregon, and the 7th in the state of Oregon.
