Sunriver Resort Invests $10 million in Property-Wide Updates
The year 1968 was a big one: a gallon of gas cost 34 cents, the word ‘groovy’ was officially added to Webster’s Dictionary, McDonald’s introduced the Big Mac, and the Lodge at Sunriver was built.
A lot has changed over the years, but one thing remains the same: Sunriver Resort is still the place where people come to get away and get together. The goal has always been to preserve this feeling of continuity from year to year so generation after generation can return to Sunriver and still experience the place they knew as a kid, give or take a few banana seat bikes. With tradition in mind, Sunriver Resort thoughtfully embarked on a more than $10 million investment while upgrading to the Lodge, Lodge Village rooms, and new Besson Commons area over the past three years in order to greatly improve aspects of the resort without making it unrecognizable.
Even with all of its rugged charm, the Lodge was not originally built for accessibility. It’s always been a little quirky with its sweeping stairs that lead you through raised and sunken levels within each floor. With the new updates, there is now a three stop elevator for each floor and mini-lifts that function in between each floor from level to level. The entire lobby has been refurnished, there are new area rugs throughout the entire building, and all the furniture has been updated. A new heated concrete pathway replaced the meandering serpentine ramp so visitors can now go straight from the parking lot right to the front door. The landscaping is absolutely lovely with native trees and flowering shrubs that lend a whole new feel of sophistication to the entire place.
In addition to the Lodge, the Lodge Village guestrooms underwent a huge transformation in interior upgrades including new flooring, bathroom updates, sleek furniture, bright lighting, new paint schemes, and much more. I’m happy to report that the few holdout units that still had the original décor are indeed gone… not that the 1960’s pea green appliances and orange countertops weren’t, uh, colorful. All 190 of the Sunriver Resort owned units are scheduled to be completed by 2015.
In addition to interior updates, the new Besson Commons area opened this summer. This outdoor space allows guests to enjoy a large garden park area intended for outdoor recreation and events. The expansive area, which covers nearly three acres in the middle of Sunriver Resort, is now the go to spot for guests to enjoy lawn activities, afternoon bocce ball on the killer courts, and evening chats around the fire pit.
What’s the best part about this over $10 million renovation? Most people probably won’t notice that anything is different. In true Sunriver Resort fashion, the remodel and additions were completed with such thoughtfulness that they skillfully and seamlessly blend with the original architecture and layout. People will be able to enjoy 21st century amenities without losing the original mountain charm. Sunriver Resort looks as if it should have always been this way… and even after all these years, we think that’s pretty groovy.
