The Haunted Hall at Sunriver Resort
Back in 1943, the US Army claimed an area of land in Central Oregon on a meadow near the Deschutes River and called it Camp Abbot. They used the camp as training grounds and built a magnificent log building for their Officer's Club. That meadow is now part of Sunriver Resort and the Officer's Club is now the Great Hall, a premier Northwest meeting space.
Legend has it that one of the officers at the camp was accidentally killed during a training session in 1943 and now, according to some Resort employees, that unnamed officer's presence can be felt in the Great Hall - sometimes appearing in the Crow's Nest on the upper floor dressed in full Army fatigues.
Some have seen candles floating, others have heard rattling in the empty building late at night. Richard Shields, a banquet server at the Resort, had an experience with the Sunriver ghost. "Once, late at night while shutting things down after a very busy wedding, I left the Great Hall after turning off all the lights. I returned five minutes later and found ALL of the lights burning bright. As I was the only person in the building this was very disconcerting and quite eerie. I didn't see anything in the Crow's Nest, but I definitely felt something".
Happy Halloween from Sunriver Resort!
