The Dog Days of Summer at Sunriver Resort
As I drive into work at Sunriver Resort at 4:30 each morning (my commute is not like most), I carpool with my 90 pound dog, Zoe. A Bernese Mountain Dog-Golden Retriever mix, she is quite a sight as we roll along; her large head out the window, wind in her face, eyes wide open and ears flapping.
I pull into Sunriver Resort’s Meadows Golf Course Maintenance shop and load her up next to me in my golf cart. She sits on the seat next to me- ready to go to work. We head down the fairways with the Central Oregon High Desert morning frost and dew and pass a herd of deer grassing and Zoe perks up- like coffee does for me that early!
We come over the hill and there they are….any golf course maintenances nemesis- geese. Zoe looks at me and we both know what comes next, she jumps down and runs 100 yards and forces the geese to fly off or they head back into the water. I believe she is actually scared of geese but knows her job is to keep them from making a mess of the fairways and greens.
Zoe has since been promoted at Sunriver Resort as our Director of Geese Control! Honestly all joking aside, she has assisted with making sure the golf experience and course standards at the Meadows are better than ever.
