Junior Golf Should Be FUN
Having been in golf for nearly 20 years, my fondest memories are of my days as a junior when scores and advanced technique mattered all too little. Looking back, it seems that the most appropriate word to describe those experiences is FUN. Since then, I have been fortunate to work closely with juniors of all ages and have come to realize that the most important ingredient introducing young people to golf is indeed FUN. For many juniors, the introduction to the game comes with clubs that do not fit and technical instruction that leads to misunderstanding and frustration.
As the days continue to warm and summer commences, the golf staff at Sunriver Resort is excited to foster a learning environment for juniors that enhances the FUN aspect of learning the game. Along with our daily junior clinics, we will be offering SNAG (Starting New At Golf) clinics for our youngest golfers, ages eight and under. With an emphasis on making the game of golf FUN for beginning juniors, SNAG incorporates all the elements of golf from tee-to-green with modified rules and yardages aimed at making the game enjoyable for everybody. Played with only two clubs, the Launcher and the Roller, SNAG clubs allow beginning golfers the chance to easily learn the fundamentals of the grip, stance and swing without being confused by the different lengths and swings typical of a 14-club bag.
Our resident SNAG instructor, Jeff Keyes, will be offering SNAG clinics on a weekly basis beginning the week of June 20th.
