Many visitors to Sunriver Resort and other Destination Hotels and Resorts Northwest properties comment on hearing the term “freezing fog”, it’s something much of the country (and world) may never have heard of! When temperatures at ground level drop to or below freezing, the water droplets that make up fog often freeze on contact. That's freezing fog! These supercooled water droplets actually remain in a liquid state until they come in to contact with something. And once they come in to contact with something, like the ground, trees and plants, cars, etc. they coat the surface and freeze completely. Freezing fog is not uncommon in the Pacific Northwest, especially in the higher elevations. It creates incredible landscapes and up close beauty!
