As the "Champion of Fun" in Group Sales at Sunriver Resort, I wanted to find an activity that incorporated team building and fun while doing something that gave back to our community. Through a wonderful local website, www.volunteerconnect.com, I was introduced to Friends with Flowers of Oregon.
This organization was formed to bring bedside bouquets, and compassion, to hospice patients in Central Oregon. The flowers are donated by: grocery stores, flower shops, gardeners and various events (weddings, social and corporate). Volunteers create beautiful arrangements with donated products. Hospice care workers and volunteers share these flowers with their patients. I worked with their President, Heidi Berkman, and came up with a fun scavenger hunt idea to accomplish the goal of team building and fun!
Our sales team broke into 3 teams and embarked on a wild hunt for 2 hours to find all the supplies that Friends with Flowers Needed; produce boxes for delivery, newspapers for packing and vases to hold the flowers. In 2 hours each team had to gather as many items as they could and the team who collected the most items would be crowned champion. The teams all had to come up with a plan, stay together and work together to accomplish this goal. All of the teams met back at the Friends With Flowers store to deliver their items and learn more about the process of making the beautiful bouquets that would be delivered.
Sara Carson of Blue Daffodil Flowers explained the process of sorting the incoming flowers and arranging the bouquets. We each took a vase and began our own creation knowing that tomorrow a very special Hospice patient would be receiving our beautiful arrangement. In the end, the entire team agreed that it was a fun and rewarding experience that we definitely want to do again. Mission accomplished!
