October is my favorite month at Sunriver Resort
Sunriver Resort is a great place that families have visited generation after generation, with fond memories of floating the Deschutes river, riding bikes and hiking on the paved trails, golf on the four spectacular courses, the spa, great dining, horseback trail rides, kids camps, and just being together where there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Many a happy memory and treasured tradition has begun by a family’s first summer vacation to Sunriver. But as we read, “To everything there is a season” nowhere is that more true than in Sunriver.
Sunriver has four distinct seasons, summer being the one familiar to most visitors, and winters being the next most familiar Sunriver season. But in my book, there is no better season than fall, and no better fall month than October. I have had the good fortune to be a year round Sunriver resident for more than ten years, and there is no time I would rather be here than now. Cold, clear nights dipping well below freezing, followed by bright blue daytime skies with temperatures pushing 70; the anticipation of the first snow of the season (and boy did we get a shock this year); quiet, empty bike paths for strolling; the smell of wood fires in the air; the deer, squirrels, coyotes, horses putting on their winter coats; hoping that there is one last round of golf to be enjoyed before weather shuts down the courses; sitting by the fire; watching the aspen leaves turn to bright shades yellow and red; ice starting to form on the lakes as Caldera Springs; quietness everywhere you wander.
It just doesn’t get any better than this. If you have never been here in October, you have yet to enjoy the most special time of the year that Sunriver can offer, in my book.
