Although not actually resembling the character from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the herd of elk that historically roam on the grounds of Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort have returned this winter.
The herd is seldom seen with the naked eye, with droppings and hoof-prints generally our only proof of its existence. However, our very own Jim Ramey captured a beautiful photograph of them at sunrise on the morning of Monday, December 14. The elk join a number of other Central Oregon wildlife species that wander through the snow-covered meadows and marshlands of our property this time of year: coyotes, deer, otters, beavers, migratory birds, hawks, and eagles have also been known to grace Crosswater during the winter months. With the reduction in human traffic around our cart paths and fairways, the property becomes a wintertime haven for these beautiful animals.
