(Sunriver, Ore.) — Sunriver Resort is in final preparations for the 46th PGA Professional National Championship June 23-26, presented by Club Car, Mercedes Benz and Omega. Live coverage can be seen on the Golf Channel throughout the multi-day event.
A field of 312 PGA Professionals has descended upon the Central Oregon resort, preparing to compete against Defending Champion Matt Dobyns through four rounds of play for the Championship. The emerging Champion will receive the coveted Walter Hagen Cup, and a $550,000 purse. Also at stake for the top-20 finishers is a berth in the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York in August.
Play begins Sunday, June 23 on both the Crosswater Club and Meadows Golf Courses, wherein the field of 312 will compete once on each course in the first two rounds. Following the first 36 holes of play, the field will be reduced to the low 70 scores and those tied for 70th place. Those players will compete in the final two rounds at Crosswater Club before the 2013 Professional National Champion is named on June 26.
This marks the third visit to Sunriver Resort by the PGA, including visits in 2001 and 2007, making it the second location in history to host the PGA Professional’s National Championship three times.
About Sunriver Resort Golf: Crosswater Club, ranked by Golf Digest as one of "America's Greatest 100 Public Golf Courses," was the site of the Champions Tour's Jeld-Wen Tradition from 2007-10; the 2006 NCAA men's Division I Championship; a 1999 segment of "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf," and the 1998 Western PGA Professional Championship. The Meadows Course hosted the 2007 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship and the 2002 USGA Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Designed by Bob Cupp, the par-72 Crosswater played to 7,563 yards in the two previous championships, which made it the second longest layout in event history. The Meadows Golf Course, a collaborative effort between Fred Federspiel and John Fought, is a par-71 layout that was played at 7,001 yards in the event. The Meadows winds its way along the great meadow and through groves of Ponderosa pines.
