A native Oregonian with international credentials in civil engineering, Steven M. Runner has assumed the role of Director of Development at Sunriver Resort, a Destination Hotels & Resorts property. He is to oversee Sunriver’s new Harper Project, which is to include a nine-hole executive golf course adjacent to the award-winning Crosswater course.

“I am excited to get things underway,” said Runner, 51, who joins the resort staff after working the past five years as Director of Public Works for the City of Sunriver. “I have always been impressed with the Sunriver organization and personnel, and their accomplishments.”

Born in Salem, Ore., Runner is a graduate of Oregon State University (1975) with a degree in civil engineering. A gifted vocalist who performs regionally with the Obsidian Opera and Cascade Chorale, Runner’s career has taken him to locales as distant as Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. There he was the program manager for a 4,000-acre mixed use land development that included a golf course to go with the planned community.

“The similarities with the Harper Project and the project I managed overseas piqued my interest,” Runner said. “The possibility of being involved with the same type of challenge, all without leaving Sunriver, prompted me to look into the possibility of participating. Fortunately, things worked out.”

An avid OSU Beavers sports fan, Runner and his wife, Bevalee, who live in Sunriver, have two grown daughters and a 1-year-old grandson. Active in his church, Runner brings to Sunriver 30 years of experience in business management, project management, planning, design and construction management. He has coordinated feasibility studies, as well as the planning, design execution and oversight of multi-discipline engineering/architectural projects in both the public and private sector. Runner holds registration status – the gold standard in the field -- in both civil engineering and structural engineering.

An expert in his field, Runner was a guest speaker at the Jordan/Israel Developmental Symposium in Amman, Jordan, in 1995. He also spent a year as a community college teacher, directing a course on concrete technology.
