SUNRIVER RESORT MAKES GINGERBREAD JUNCTION
DONATION TO DESCHUTES COUNTY NON-PROFIT
Winners in individual categories also announced
SUNRIVER, Dec. 6, 2007 — Sunriver Resort has made a $6,341 donation to Healthy Beginnings, this year’s Deschutes County non-profit beneficiary, as a result of record proceeds brought in by the 12th annual Gingerbread Junction.
Holly Remer, executive director of Healthy Beginnings, was on hand this week to accept the check. Her organization provides early identification of health and developmental concerns in young children residing in Deschutes County up to age 5.
In addition, the competition announced the winners from the various entrant categories, highlighted by Jodie Breneman and Marlene Brown again earning “Best in Show” honors, and A Kleene Sweep Chimney Service winning the “People’s Choice” award, which was voted on by the public over Thanksgiving weekend.
The annual gingerbread event is co-sponsored by Sunriver Resort and the Central Oregon Builders Association (COBA), which made a $1,700 donation (cash and house-making supplies for schools) to the capital campaign to sponsor gingerbread “lot sales.” Sunriver Resort made a dollar-for-dollar matching donation from proceeds garnered from the lot sales, which range from $15 to $50 depending on the category entered.
Local individuals, kindergarten through 12-grade classes and businesses had the option of building gingerbread homes on three different lot sizes that ranged in price from $15 to $50.
With representatives from Healthy Beginnings, COBA and Gusto Magazine serving as judges, the gingerbread creations were evaluated on originality, style, use of food and technical merits. The winners in the individual categories are:
Adult Individual – Jodie Breneman and Marlene Brown
Business – A Kleene Sweep Chimney Service
Children’s Individual – Veronica Schneider
Elementary School – Ensworth Elementary School, 3rd Grade
Middle School & High School – Christy Mosier (student)
Gusto Lane — Sunriver Resort Pastry Team
Sunriver Resort Departments – Front Desk
Best in Show – Jodie Breneman and Marlene Brown
People’s Choice (public vote) — A Kleene Sweep Chimney Service
Gingerbread Junction’s 70 houses all are on display this month in Sunriver Resort’s Main Lodge (North Pole) as part of the property’s popular “Traditions” holiday celebration.
In addition, the Lake House at Caldera Springs — the new resort community located across from Crosswater Golf Club — features an elaborate gingerbread creation by artist Helen Brown, a previous three-time winner of the “People’s Choice” award. Her gingerbread house, as well as some of her watercolor paintings, will be on display the entire month of December at the Lake House, Caldera’s community hub.
