Registration Opens for 2013 Sunriver Marathon for a Cause
Sunriver Resort Race Weekend to Include Seven Running Events, One for Every Fitness Level
For Immediate Release
January 18, 2013
(Sunriver, Ore.) —Registration for the Third Annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause is open through Active.com, Sunriver Resort announced today. Those who register early will secure the year’s lowest rates for the popular charity races, which have earned more than $31,000 for Susan G Komen and breast cancer research since they began in 2011.
With this announcement, come details of expansion for Sunriver Resort’s Marathon for a Cause – a rapidly growing event known for its picturesque courses, high-quality schwag and passionate volunteers. The Resort has added a new half marathon race, a "race challenge," and expanded Lodging packages, including a Ladies Weekend Race Package and Family Lodging Package, to the August 31- September 1 roster.
"To me, the beauty of Sunriver Resort races is just how different they are from many big-city runs," said Race Director Debra Martyn-Jones. "Here, you can book a weekend with your girlfriends, walk to the starting line, enjoy gorgeous scenery, and be on the massage table by noon."
The diversity of races available (seven races in the span of two days), and their timing within the overall race season (Sunday’s Marathon is a Boston qualifier, the both half marathons are official training races for Portland Marathoners) make the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause the answer to nearly every race goal.
Here, an overview of the Marathon for a Cause race events for 2013:
A music and pet-friendly race taking place August 31 at 9:00 am starting and returning to the Sunriver Resort Lodge. Finishers receive a commemorative prize; awards given to top female, male and masters winners.
Also a USATF-certified, pet-friendly, and music-friendly race, the 10K begins August 31 at 9:10 am. Finishers receive a commemorative prize; awards are given to top female, male and masters racers as well.
A creative way to keep kids active throughout the summer, the Kids Marathon challenges youths to log 25 one-mile training runs before finishing the last mile of their "marathon"
at Sunriver Resort on the morning of August 31. For children under the age of 12; finishers receive a t-shirt, medal and a chocolate milk.
A 1K dash for fun for our youngest athletes held on August 31 behind the Sunriver Lodge. All finishers receive a t-shirt, medal and a chocolate milk; a great way to build confidence and a positive outlook on exercise!
