Eat, Play and Be Merry! Join the 17th Annual Annual Traditions Celebration at Sunriver Resort

Sunriver Resort, a Destination Hotel, is decking the halls this winter season, with a two-month-long lineup of activities and events. Some of the key holiday happenings include the Grand Illumination lighting ceremony, the Gingerbread Junction display, elf tuck-ins and special Fort Funnigan programming for kids, and a number of festive dining events. The Central Oregon getaway is a favorite all-seasons destination and, with neighboring Mt. Bachelor and a variety of special programming, a can’t-miss winter wonderland for the whole family.

Programming: A selection of the time-honored Traditions programming is included below, with a full calendar of events and reservation information available on the Sunriver Resort website.

  • Holiday Dining Events (Nov. 26 – Jan. 1)
Chef Travis Taylor and Sunriver Resort are pulling out all the stops for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s dining specials. From multi-course prix fixe meals and lavish buffets to post-holiday brunches, the options are endless. Prices start at $24 per person, with select meals free for children under 5 or those who attend with a paying adult. Reservations required.
  • Turkey Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk (Nov. 27, 10 a.m.)
Say yes to seconds (or thirds!) at Thanksgiving dinner and run it off during the annual three-mile Turkey Trot to support the Neighborhood Impact program. Cost is $25 and pre-registration is required (no day-of registration available); those who sign up before Nov. 15 receive a free shirt!
  • Grand Illumination (Nov. 27, 1:30 – 7 p.m.)
Bring the family to the “North Pole,” adjacent to the Main Lodge, for an evening of crafts, live entertainment, pony rides and more! The tented area will also feature works and food for purchase from local artisans and vendors. The parade and tree lighting will begin at 5:30 p.m., and complimentary shuttles will be available to the “North Pole” tent from select locations throughout the event.
  • Brunch with Santa (Nov. 28, Dec. 12, Dec. 24, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Enjoy a brunch of holiday favorites with the man in the red suit! Santa is setting up shop in the historic Great Hall and will be joined by fun characters to mix, mingle and partake in festivities! Reservations required; cost is $42 for adults, $21 for children ages 6-12 and free for those 5 and under.
  • Elf Tuck-Ins (Nov. 28, Dec. 11 – 12 and 18 – 24, 6 – 9 p.m.)

For ages 12 and under, reservations required. Cost is $25-45 per child, depending on date.
  • Gingerbread Junction (Dec. 4 – Jan. 1)
Gumdrops and frosting and candy canes, oh my! Now in its 19th year, Gingerbread Junction is a favorite community display of sweetly decorative houses. Gingerbread Junction will be on display in the Abbot Room and is free and open to the public.
  • Fort Funnigan’s Junior Gingerbread Junction (Dec. 18, 6 – 9 p.m.)
It’s an evening of sweet excursions, starting with games like Candy Land and Candy Cane Hunt, and then taking a field trip to Gingerbread Junction for inspiration. Kids will then be equipped with their own sugary kit to create mini gingerbread houses at the Fort! Open to kids ages 3-10; cost is $35 for guests and $40 for non-guests.

Step into the magical world of Santa’s Workshop and create a hand-crafted holiday keepsake! Choose from fused-glass ornaments, night lights or a hand-painted ceramic mug, ready to be filled with cocoa. • The Bear Factory (Saturdays, Nov. 28 – Dec. 28, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.)
