Most participants know that the goal of the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause is to fight against breast cancer.  But like many charity races, it is hard to tell whether our Marathon for a Cause runners understand the tangible impact made possible by their participation. Today, we share a few statistics to ensure the ultimate goal of our race is never overlooked.

Since its inaugural year in 2011, the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause has provided an exceptional race experience for nearly 2,000 runners and earned $31,000 for its beneficiary, Susan G Komen for the Cure. Specifically earmarked for the Oregon & SW Washington chapters and focused within the screening program, this money has helped low income, uninsured women to receive health exams, mammography and diagnostic services.

This year, Komen’s Oregon & SW Washington screening program will serve 5,200 women. If an eligible woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, then she is admitted to the Medicaid program for treatment services. The program also helps women overcome barriers to cervical, colon and breast health by covering transportation costs in the face of geographic barriers, particularly for those living in rural areas.

So breast health supporters, take note: when you run for a cause at Sunriver Resort, you are making a real, tangible, life-saving difference for women in the Pacific Northwest.
