Runners tend to measure life in terms of distances.
An ordinary Tuesday is suddenly made significant when labeled “10-mile-Tuesday;” work must be less busy than usual if you were able to make it a “30-mile-week;” your spouse knows exactly how long you will be gone when leaving for a “3-mile tempo run.”
As distance people ourselves, the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause team wants to call your attention to one more important distance: 16. This is the distance between Bend and the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause starting line.
Yet ours is not a 16 mile pre-dawn fight through traffic just to leave you endlessly looping a parking lot before finding yourself barricaded 10 miles from the timing pad. Instead, Bend-area 5K, 10K, Half-Marathoners and Boston qualifiers are just a green and peaceful 16 miles –from your door to ours – to the best boutique charity race in the West.
We hope to see you Labor Day Weekend; or for you distance types, just a few hundred training miles from now!
